Quality Assurance Program

Star of Kodiak is a Seafood Quality Assurance Certification Program for seafood products originating from the Kodiak Region. The Kodiak Branding and Marketing Committee created the Star of Kodiak Quality Assurance Program to assist in raising the existing standards that are used within the fishing and processing industry to help produce consistently, high quality, wild salmon products. By creating customer trust through consistent high quality, our products will be able to be competitive with both the domestic and foreign markets resulting in higher catch value to the fishermen.

Program Goals
1) Our program will comprise of a core fleet of trusted fishermen who are willing to follow the Star of Kodiak Quality Assurance Program Requirements

2) Raise the quality standards of the program products by tracking it from the point it is caught all the way through to case-up

3) Provide the domestic and foreign markets with top quality products
4) Assist in offering marketing tools to provide with the product to inspire product recognition for both the domestic and foreign markets

5) Improve the value of the catch for the fishermen

6) Build International recognition for our Kodiak Regional Wild Alaska Salmon Products

The Program will actively solicit input on the program from the Kodiak Regional participants. Over time, each element of the Kodiak Regional Quality Assurance Program will be steadily strengthened to bring fresh and frozen production up to desired quality levels.

Star of Kodiak will work with participating direct marketers and processors to promote the quality program and the certification mark to their customers and sales channels. The overall goal is eventually to raise fish values by meeting higher customer standards for the full range of intrinsic features of Wild Alaska salmon harvested from the Kodiak area. The program will begin with salmon, and expand to the other species as needed.
